Personal Style: Mari Gomez Makeup Artist- Maquilladora Profesional

ENG. Makeup is powerful and magical if you know how to use it in the right way to benefit and enhance yourself.  Makeup can make an invisible women become the center of attention; it can also make a bad day end wonderfully since it can illuminate your face and can make you look more beautiful. Makeup can transform anyone physical and emotionally.  It can give life to a face improving exteriors in great ways. For me, makeup is the cover of your personal style because no matter how you are dressed it always reveals what type of style you have. For that reason, I decided to interview Mari Gomez, a fantastic Colombian makeup artist, because your personal style is also defined by your make up.

1. Profession

Fashion Designer, Makeup artist and stylist.

2. What would you like to be when you grow up?

That is a bit complicated, I have not stopped to think about that because tons of ideas pop into my head and I like to go little by little. But within those ideas I have in mind collaborating with a fashion magazine, to take the concept of my store Petite Coquette globally and why not, create a makeup line!

3. Describe yourself in 5 words.

A dreamer, impulsive, nice, passionate to the point of being intense. Happy and optimist.

4. How would you define your makeup style?

That depends on the occasion, but in general my style is classic with an edgy touch.

5. What inspires you?

Music and sunny days. Fashion magazines and color.

6. Makeup for you is?

Makeup is an artistic expression where I can showcase my creativity; this is even more so when I prepare editorial looks. I also consider makeup a service, a little push to your self esteem and spirit, it may sound weird or superficial but trust me it is true!  In occasions some girls arrive to my boutique desperate, ready to throw themselves out a window due to a love deception or something else, and then I put makeup on them, dress them up and they look fantastic! It’s the same as if they had 10 hours of therapy or as if they had read self-help books such as the ones by Walter Riso.

7. What are the most important pieces of your makeup?

Even before makeup what I consider most important to have is a good moisturizer cream with sun protection to wear as soon as you get out of the shower. Also, since I am always running and I never have time to put on makeup at the house, I put my makeup on the street lights while I am taking my daughter to the kindergarten, therefore I always carry with me eye concealer, powder, blush and mascara. That’s it! But also as this is vital, there is something I always have, remover cream. I ALWAYS REMOVE MY MAKEUP BEFORE GOING TO BED!  

8. Which are the pieces of makeup that all women should carry with them when they leave the house?

Blush, lip gloss, powder and mascara.

9. If you could spend a day with a fashion icon dead or alive, who would it be?

Ahhhh, this question is complicated because I would definitely would like to spend it with various people! So I would divide my hours like this: In the morning with my beautiful Audry Hephburn, lunch with Marylin and at night with the Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw!

10. Some makeup advice that you would like to share with Juana’s 6s6nses audience?

If you have small eyes put on some pink pale, almost white eye shadow around the eye and down the eyebrow which would make your eyes more visible.

The best way to apply blush is to apply it while you are smiling and after fading it away towards the ears.

If you want to have big thick lips like the ones of Scarlet Johanson, just use a lip pencil to outline your lips with a pencil of the same tone of your lips. Afterwards you should apply a lighter color to the rest of the lips and then in the middle you should illuminate the lips with a pearl creamy shadow.

Puede hacer que una mujer desapercibida pase a ser el centro de la atención, puede hacer que un día malo termine siendo maravilloso ya que te puede iluminar el rostro y hacerte ver más linda. El maquillaje puede transformar a cualquiera ya sea física o emocionalmente. Puede darle vida a un rostro logrando que el exterior mejore en grandes cantidades. El maquillaje es la fachada de tu estilo personal ya que no importa como estés vestida, el maquillaje siempre revela que tipo de estilo tienes. Por esta razón decidí entrevistar a Mari, una súper makeup artist Colombiana, porque tu estilo personal también viene definido por tu maquillaje.

2. ¿Qué te gustaría ser cuando seas grande?

Pues  eso es complicado, no me he puesto a pensar en eso ya que se vienen mil ideas a la cabeza y me gusta ir paso a paso.  Pero dentro de esas ideas están trabajar como colaboradora de alguna revista de moda  y llevar el concepto Petite Coquette a otras partes del mundo, y ¿por qué no? ¡crear una línea de maquillaje!

3. Descríbete en 5 palabras.

Soñadora-impulsiva-noble-apasionada, por no decir intensa. Alegre y optimista.

4. ¿Cómo definirías tu estilo en maquillaje?

Eso depende para qué ocasión, pero se podría decir que es clásico con un toque edgy.

5. ¿Qué te inspira?

La música y los días soleados. Las revistas de moda y el color.

6. ¿El maquillaje para ti es?

Una expresión artística donde puedo canalizar mi creatividad, esto más que todo cuando hago looks tipo editorial. Pero también lo considero un servicio y un empujoncito para la autoestima y el espíritu, puede que suene raro o superficial pero ¡es verdad! En ocasiones llegan chicas a mi boutique que han estado a punto de tirarse por una ventana por alguna decepción amorosa y las maquillo, les armo la pinta y quedan regias, es como si hubieran ido a 10 horas de terapia o se hubieran leído todos los libros de Walter Riso.

7. ¿Cuáles son las piezas más importantes en tu maquillaje?

Antes que el maquillaje, lo más importante es una buena crema humectante con protección solar apenas salgo de la ducha, y como  siempre vivo corriendo entonces nunca tengo tiempo para maquillarme en casa, así que lo hago en los semáforos de camino a llevar a mi hija al jardín. En mi bolso de cosméticos obligatoriamente debo tener corrector, polvos, blush y pestañina. ¡That’s it! Pero así como estas cosas son vitales, también es la crema desmaquillante. ¡SIEMPRE PERO SIEMPRE ME DESMAQULLO ANTES DE ACOSTARME!

8. ¿Cuáles son las piezas de maquillaje que toda mujer debería llevar con ella cuando sale de casa?

Polvos, lip gloss, blush y pestañina.

9. ¿Si pudieras pasar un día con un ícono de la moda vivo o muerto con quién lo pasarías?

 Ayy pues qué cosa, esta pregunta es complicada, la verdad escogería varios y me repartiría las horas del día. Ej: en la mañana con mi queridísima Audry Hepburn, al medio día con Marylin y en la noche con el personaje de Sex and the City ¡Carrie Bradshaw!

10. ¿Un consejo o truco práctico de maquillaje que quieras compartir con los lectores de Juana’s 6s6nses?

Si tiene los ojos pequeños puedes aplicarte un poco de sombra rosa pálida, casi blanca sobre todo el ojo y bajo la ceja, esto hace que los ojos sean más visibles.

La mejor manera de aplicar el blush es sonriendo, y luego difuminándolo hacia las orejas.

Si quieres tener unos labios gruesos estilo Scarlet Johanson, puedes delinear los labios con un lápiz del mismo tono de tus labios, luego aplicas un color más claro adentro y en la mitad iluminas con una sombra en crema perlada.
